  • Bloodline by cecily_sass

Mulder receives cryptic photographs that lead him and Scully to suspect that Samantha, or one of her relatives, is still alive and well...but this becomes more complicated as it becomes clear who this person is. This takes place late season 6, pre-William. This will be Mulder-Scully romance, but it's a slow burn with lots of angst. It’s always a delight to see an old WIP get concluded, especially when it happens two decades later. Cecily-Sass’s decision to finish her wonderful story is excellent. What stands out in “Bloodline” is the way she portrays Mulder and Scully—their non-communication, their shared history, and their very essence. The cryptic photographs, the references to Samantha, and the slow-burn romance create a suspenseful underlying mystery. The plot, skillfully woven into the nanobots arc (including our favourite ratboy Alex Krycek!), kept me hooked from the start. Cecily-Sass’s take on Krycek, his worldview, and his humour adds another layer to the plot—a brilliant idea executed beautifully. "Bloodline" is a wonderful story that captures the heart of the X-Files! Well worth the read! A very interesting interview with the author can also be found in Lilydale's   Old School X  series. archiveofourown.org/works/29036238

Mulder was supposed to pick up Scully from the airport but he doesn't show up. • Shine On by cecily_sass

A boy from Wyoming shows up on Mulder's doorstep with a big appetite and dirty shoes. Mind reading, murder and MSR. If you're like me and you've been craving Mulder and Scully's dynamic in a post-"I Want To Believe" fic, then you absolutely need to check out cecily_sass's fanfic. This is what I had hoped the revival would be. This fanfic totally nails the Mulder-Scully relationship rollercoaster. They start off distant, which hits all of my angst-buttons, but then they slowly find their way back to each other—but in a way that feels natural. It’s emotional, and intense, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. And the plot gives them a real reason to jump back into the X-Files. And it's more than just any case, or even an X-Files, no they’re faced with something far more personal: a certain 15-year-old boy from Wyoming. And all of a sudden all the things they've learned in the past are very real and present again. I especially like how this fic dives deep into their special and unique family dynamic. While it's also about government conspiracies and secret projects, these characters have personal hurdles to overcome too—and I'm all here for it. The way cecily_sass explores the different relationships between all the characters gives the story additional layers and provides more depth to the characters. Mulder, Scully and Jackson, as well as everyone else, feel both real and relatable. Shine On incorporates all the twists and turns of the "X-Files"-mythology. It takes elements of the syndicate's projects and weaves in surprises and twists that keep you guessing throughout. One more reason why this could've been how the revival could've played out. This fanfic captures everything I love about Mulder and Scully: Their strong bond, their desire to uncover the truth, and their loyalty and love for each other. Reading this story is like taking a different turn in the mythology that still feels true to the original series. It’s the kind of storytelling that honors the legacy of "The X-Files" while venturing into uncharted territory—once more, like the revival could and should've done. So if you are looking for another great story in #TheXFiles fandom, this is the fic for you. I was glued to every page, wishing this was the revival we got. Give it a shot—you won’t regret it! • The Marriage Spectacular by cecily_sass

Lost FBI agents. Stormy weather. A marriage retreat in a mountainside inn with one room available. I was captivated right from the start and I loved the angst, the tension, and how cecily_sass built it up. Her talent to slowly build up the emotions was impressive and left me wanting to see what would happen next. Mulder and Scully's disconnect in the beginning sets the stage for the ups and downs that lay ahead. And the miscommunication and misinterpretations increased the tension and made it even worse until the final revealed answers. However, what especially stood out, in my opinion, was how cecily_sass wrote the characters: Beneath all the emotional tension of the plot, cecily_sass managed to capture their deep knowledge of each other beautifully. When it came down to it, they knew each other no matter how unsure they were about the state of their relationship. This part of the story resonated with me the most because their relationship was at the core of it all. cecily_sass captures the very essence of Mulder and Scully. When I initially read this fic, I only planned to read the first chapter and return to it later. Instead, I ended up getting completely captivated and couldn't stop reading. Did I mention how much I loved this fic? The emotions, the miscommunication, the different events, the way the characters were totally in character, and the emotional tension cecily_sass built up are all part of why this is an incredibly captivating story. cecily_sass has a real talent for storytelling, and I'm glad I came across this fantastic story that had me glued to my screen from beginning to end. • Movable Forces by xxSKSxx

After a traumatic accident, Scully realizes that she can’t remember the events of the past few days. With Mulder’s help, she tries to piece together the fragments of her memory. But something is not as it seems—and Mulder might have a secret. As a true fan of tropes, #tropetember is one of my favorite times of the year. It's a time when we celebrate all those storytelling, TV and fanfic tropes that keep us hooked time and again. For my contribution this year, I've chosen one of the classics: the amnesia trope. To me, it's a trope that never fails to excite me. I hope you’ll have as much fun reading as I had writing it. If you enjoy stories that play with the line between truth and imagination, wishful thinking and reality, past and present, then my entry to #tropetember might be right up your alley. And if you enjoyed Movable Forces , I'd love to hear your thoughts—whether it’s a comment, kudos, or a share. Just remember to be kind. Happy reading, and may your #tropetember be filled with amazing stories! Read Movable Forces by xxSKSxx  on AO3.

  • Broken Things by mldrgrl

The year is 1886, William Mulder owns a horse ranch in northern Texas. The widow of a neighboring landowner has something he wants. This fic seriously brought a smile to my face. Mldrgrl's talent for storytelling is something else. She created a captivating and emotional story that's just beautiful. There's just no other description for it. What really gets me though is, that the story doesn't lose any of its wonderful, enchanting, gorgeous storytelling, no matter how often I re-read it. Mldrgrl truly created a masterpiece here, and she created a story that holds up over time. And as this can't be said enough, I'm repeating it one more time: this fic is amazing. I found it especially captivating, how Mulder and Katherine's interactions always seemed genuine. And the story never loses its pace. One event after the other add up to the final revelation in the bathroom. And the supporting cast is just as interesting. We get Frohike and Monika and Doggett and Skinner and many others in their time-adjusted roles. And their journeys and backgrounds are just as engaging. A journey I loved to take with all the characters. archiveofourown.org/works/29005155

  • Liberating the Mirage by xxSKSxx

When an assignment goes horribly wrong, Mulder has to race against time to find Scully. But sometimes the line between reality and illusion blurs—and it turns out there’s more than one locked door that needs to be opened. This is my contribution to Fictober, a yearly event that celebrates writing and reading—and fall. All of which are good things in my world. Since there’s no way I can come up with a new story every day, I’ve decided to write one fic that includes all prompts from the Fictober 2023 prompt list. They’re all in bold if you want to seek them out specifically. You can find the list here: Fictober 2023 I hope you’ll have as much fun reading this fic as I had writing it. Thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoy my contribution to Fictober 2023. And if you want to comment, please feel free. You'd make my day—just be kind. archiveofourown.org/works/50562865
